Water Service Line Material Inventory

The City of Viroqua is focused on protecting the health of every household in our community. As such, the water utility has created an inventory of all the water service line materials for customers of Viroqua Utilities.

A water service is the water pipe that connects your property to the water main. Please see the images below for reference.

Viroqua Utilities will identify all water service line material in the next 10 years. To date 1,894 of 1,963 properties have street side service line material verified and 1,861 of 1,963 properties have property side service line material verified.

The purpose of this material inventory is to identify any lead or galvanized lines in the system. Viroqua Utilities has not found any lead service pipe currently in the system. We have found galvanized lines on some property side services. We also have a number of unknown services materials that we are actively looking to determine.  If you would like to arrange for an employee to help you identify your material or if you would like to report the material you found please contact Cheryl Purvis at 608-637-8724 or [email protected]. 

Galvanized services can present a risk to lead exposure if they were ever historically connected to lead. Those properties with galvanized lines or unknown materials will be contacted in the next month to provide next steps and information of the potential risk of lead in the water services lines.
