Main Street Projects 2023 and 2024
The City of Viroqua is undertaking two projects on Main Street through Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) grant funds. The first, planned for 2023, is funded by the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) and involves the sections of Main Street outside of downtown, Brendel to HWY 56 and South Street to Rusk Avenue. The second, planned for 2024, is funded by the Transportations Alternatives Program (TAP) and involves the sections of Main Street downtown, Hwy 56 to South Street.
The HSIP project is lead by the WisDOT. This project will be let in May 2023. Please visit the WisDOT website by clicking here for more information.
The TAP downtown project is lead by the City of Viroqua. There were a series of project meetings in 2021 to select the best alternative. The option selected by City Council was 2C – One-Way Sideroads, Dedicated Left-Turn Lanes as Court and Terhune, see image below. The presentation given to the Committee of the Whole regarding the alternatives can be found at this link or view the recorded meeting by clicking here.
