Basic Birch Bark Box – Driftless Folk School

Come learn to make this ingenious and simple ancient, round box of birch bark and local softwood. Using quality bark we will form an interlocked round body and with sharp knives carve fitted bases and lids. These little boxes can be challenging to make but are very usable and solid, and come from a very old tradition and connection to birch in northern Europe. Some hand strength and knowledge of carving will be helpful.
