Bill Bailey, member of Bayfield (WI) Electric Coop joins us to share how members are participating in rates and policy decisions. When a group buy increased the number of member-owned solar installations quickly, they decided to take a good look at the claim that “other members are subsidizing solar owners”. Through the process of data analysis and transparent records, the membership and board learned how to work together to answer questions they needed to make sound financial decisions.
VCED believes that more active member participation in coop decisions is a powerful tool in our challenge to electrify everything and decarbonize the grid with local power owned by members. We’re excited to have Bill (and perhaps a board member) share their experience to see what we might learn.
